Exam & grade preparation
Sessions focused on a specific grade syllabus, technical exercises and performance pieces for an upcoming exam.
Olivia Mihet is a working pianist as much as she is a singer, the instrument she trained on and holds a Master’s degree in composition around, and the one she sits down at for cafe residencies, wedding ceremonies, and her own songwriting. Teaching piano is a natural extension of that: someone who plays professionally, week to week, teaching students what actually makes playing feel good and sound right, not just what’s technically correct on paper.
How lessons work
A first piano lesson starts with finding out where a student is starting from: complete beginner, returning after a break, or working toward a specific grade, and what they’d like lessons to lead to. From there, a lesson plan and regular schedule are built, taught online by video call to students anywhere in the world. As with every service, every proposal is tailored to lesson length, frequency and format, so it helps to have a rough sense of your goals before asking.
What a lesson covers
Lessons typically balance technical foundations, posture, hand position, reading music, scales and exercises, with repertoire the student is genuinely excited to play. For students working toward a graded exam, lessons are structured around that syllabus with clear milestones along the way. For students learning purely for enjoyment, lessons lean more toward pieces they’ve chosen themselves. Regular breaks between blocks of lessons are built into the schedule to keep learning enjoyable rather than exhausting.
What you’ll play
Repertoire ranges widely: classical pieces and exam syllabus material for structured learners, jazz and soul standards for students wanting a more contemporary sound, pop songs students already love, and Romanian folk-inspired pieces and evergreens for students wanting a connection to that tradition. Composition and songwriting can also be introduced for students curious about writing their own music, drawing on Olivia’s own background as a composer. Lessons are available in English or Romanian.
Online from anywhere
Online lessons by video call reach students in any country, adapting naturally to whatever keyboard or piano a student has at home. Where dates allow, in-person sessions can occasionally be arranged around travel.
Who piano lessons suit
Some students start piano lessons purely for enjoyment, wanting an hour each week that’s just theirs; others are working steadily toward graded exams with clear technical benchmarks to hit along the way; and some are adults picking the instrument back up after years away from it. Because Olivia teaches piano alongside performing and composing professionally, lessons tend to stay connected to real musical goals, playing a piece well enough to enjoy performing it, not just passing a technical checklist, whatever level a student is starting from.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need my own piano to take lessons?
For online lessons, having a keyboard or piano at home makes practice between sessions much easier, though it doesn't need to be a full acoustic piano. For in-person lessons, a keyboard or piano is available in the lesson room.
How much do piano lessons cost?
There's no published price list, since cost depends on lesson length, frequency and format. Share your goals and a tailored proposal will follow.
Are lessons available in person as well as online?
Online lessons by video call work well for students anywhere in the world. In-person sessions can sometimes be arranged around travel dates, and this is discussed when you get in touch.
What age groups do you teach?
Lessons suit a wide range of ages, from younger beginners taking their first lessons through to adult learners returning to piano or starting for the first time.
Can lessons be focused on a specific piece or exam grade?
Yes. Preparing a particular grade syllabus, a recital piece, or even a specific song a student wants to learn is a normal and welcome part of lesson planning.
Do lessons happen in English or Romanian?
Both. Lessons can be taught in whichever language is most comfortable for the student.
How is a course of lessons booked?
After discussing current level and goals, a lesson plan and regular schedule are agreed, with a simple booking arrangement to secure the slot.
